Despite living in Melbourne my whole life which is only an hour plane ride from Sydney, I’ve only ever visited once before (that I can remember). A few weeks ago we decided it was finally time to book a weekend trip to Sydney!
One of the things that made this trip special is our stay at the French-inspired Sofitel Darling Harbour, one of Sydney’s newest five star hotels. If you are planning a trip to Sydney, I really couldn’t recommend this hotel enough. Everything including its location, rooms, and service is truly impeccable.
There are 590 rooms including 35 suites, spread over 28 accommodation floors. All up the hotel can accommodate 1200. I love that this hotel allows you to see Sydney from a different point of view; without the traditional bridge or Opera House view, but of the stunning Darling Harbour. We checked into one of the corner suites and it really just blew us away. My favourite part had to be the bathroom, which has one of the best views of all. It was rather mesmerising looking out of the floor to ceiling windows. If you are lucky enough to be staying in a suite, you may enjoy breakfast and snacks from Club Millésime, one of the most beautiful club lounges.
The hotel also has an infinity pool on the rooftop (with it’s own bar, of course) boasting another gorgeous view of Sydney. I mean, what more could you really ask for?! Just as you would expect from the French, the service was of the highest standards. I love that you are always greeted with a “bonjour” and left with an “au revoir”. The attention to detail at the hotel is impressive.
Restaurant & Bar
Sofitel Darling Harbour has four incredible bars and restaurants dotted throughout the hotel…
Atelier by Sofitel: A luxurious french inspired grill combining the flavours of the South of France with locally sourced produce. Even if you’re not staying at the hotel, I would highly recommend dining here one night in Sydney as it’s absolutely beautiful. The food is exquisite and we will definitely be returning for a dinner. Our favourites were the oysters and truffle mashed potato.
Atelier also regularly holds drink specials, and whilst we were there we were fortunate enough to try the “Champagne on the rocks” cocktail. It was such a fun cocktail available all summer long!
Champagne bar: At champagne bar it’s all about fine champagne, vintage cuvee and premium cocktails, with epic panoramic harbour views.
Esprit Noir: As soon as you walk into Sofitel, you’ll find ground-floor lobby bar known as Esprit Noir. It’s the place for stimulating conversations, micro-meetings or simply sitting back and relaxing.
Le Rivage Pool Bar: Located at the rooftop alongside Sofitel’s infinity pool is Le Rivage Pool Bar offering up inventive cocktails, premium Champagnes and wines, as well as delicious gourmet bites. A little mediterranean escape right in the heart of the city!
