How to Prep Your Skin for Winter

How to Prep Your Skin for Winter

The days are getting shorter, darker and colder which means Winter is sadly almost here. I envy those people who enjoy the cold because there’s really nothing I enjoy about wintertime. I do like the ‘idea’ of being cosy, sipping hot chocolates by a fire & all that jazz, but when it comes to it, it’s just not for me.

One thing that truly suffers throughout Winter is skin which is why I like to implement an updated skincare routine of heavier creams & conditioning serums. As with most people, my skin becomes quite dry so the aim here is to inject as much hydration as possible.

Here’s a few favourites I’ve added to my routine to ensure my skin is kept healthy throughout the coldest days of the year!

1. Cleansing

First things first, whether morning or night, I always start with cleansing my face to remove any makeup or impurities. I use Coast to Coast’s Purifying Cleansing Oil with contains antibacterial rosalina and eucalyptus. It’s is a lightweight formula that leaves skin refreshed and refined. I love cleansing with oils, especially since it’s ideal for all skin types and actually helps balance the oil in your skin.

Following after, I use the Gentle Cleanser by Skinstitut which is perhaps my favourite cleanser at the moment. This cleanser made its way to my streamlined products in only a few days, which is really saying something. It’s not the typical cleanser I’d usually go for, and in all honesty, my devotion to it came as a complete surprise. That being said, I absolutely swear by this cleanser now and the entire brand really. It’s almost a gel like consistency that removes even the most stubborn of waterproof mascaras without being harsh on the skin.

2. Facial mask

Every few days I’ll follow with REN’s 1-minute facial. It helps with skin elasticity, events out your skintone, fights fatigue & diminishes the appearance of lines and wrinkles. It’s a little miracle product.

You massage the almost toothpaste looking formula into your skin and let it sit for one minute. After washing it off it leaves my skin polished, sort of like it’s glowing, which is why I consider it an essential for winter and any dry skin days. It also helps makeup apply flawlessly and is just perfect if your skin is feeling rather dull during the colder months.

3. Hydrating oil

One thing I will never skimp out on during winter is OILS. Really though, obsessed doesn’t even cover it. I think oils and serums are the secret weapons to keeping your skin in tip-top shape! The Subtle Energies Facial Blend is almost like a super serum. It contains a unique blend of essential oils including Sandalwood and Mogra, blended with a base of Jojoba oil. You can use this on its own, just a few drops blended into your skin, or added to your favourite moisturisers for a deeper hydration.

4. Moisturize

Nearly every product from Clinique is nothing short of incredible, but the Moisture Surge Extended Thirst Relief is a true gem. I actually picked up the tiny (and very very cute) miniature version to give it a try before purchasing the full version, which I can assure you will definitely be happening.

The lightweight cream-gel gives skin an instant moisture boost and you can use it under or over makeup for quick pick-me-up. I carry it around in my handbag most days if my skin is feeling dry around midday or actually use it in combination with my foundation for a glowing finish. It’s the silkiest, softest texture and I just can’t get enough.

Lastly, but certainly not least, is probably one of my all-time favourite moisturisers, Hope in a Jar for night by Philosophy. It’s a cult favourite endorsed by celebrities, dermatologists and plastic surgeons, and once you use it, you will see why. The texture is just something else – potent, thick but incredibly smooth and fast absorbing. It’s one of the only moisturisers I keep repurchasing because of how it dramatically improves my skins radiance and smoothness. Although if I was to repurchase again, I would go for the renewed Hope in a Jar.

The way I go on about this moisturiser to people you’d think the company sponsored me (which they don’t, if anyone was wondering).

They also offer a hope in a jar day cream, which is a more lightweight whipped formula, but I’ve heard is equally incredible. You can get both in this cute little duo package which I think is a great value for money!
