Although I usually opt for matte shades during the year, I love the holidays for its inundation of sparkles and shimmer – particularly when it comes to makeup. I wanted to create a look that was easy, classic and wearable, even if you’re not a huge fan of shimmer.
Step 1: First, apply your bases – primer, foundation, concealer, & eyebrows.
Step 2: Cover your entire eyelid in a bronze or gold shimmer base. Try to pick one that has a metallic sheen to it.
Step 3: Using a fluffy blending brush, apply a medium brown shadow into your crease. Make sure it’s blended out enough so there’s no harsh lines.
Step 4: Apply a gold shimmer (“Cashmere” jumbo eye pencil) to your eyelids, focusing on the inner corners.
Step 5: Take a dark brown shadow and small liner brush, and line the outer corners of your top lash line. You can smoke it out with a pencil brush if you feel it’s too harsh.
Step 6: Apply mascara. You can even add some falsies if you’d like for a more dramatic look.
Step 7: For bronzer and blush, I used the Naked Flushed palette. The colours complement each other perfectly. I applied the bronzer quite generously on my cheeks and forehead, and finished with a pop of blush on my cheeks.
Step 8: Apply an illuminating liquid to highlight your cheek bones. It’s all about the glow!
Step 9: Line your lips with a red lip liner. I’ll never wear red (or any dark colour) lipstick without lining first. It stops the colour from bleeding and lasts twice as long.
Step 10: Apply your favourite red lipstick (“Rimmel 107“).
And done! It’s as simple as that. Sometimes less is more when it comes to shimmer.
What’s your go-to holiday look?
